Who Are “Above and Beyond” - Top Trance DJs and Uplifting Trance Producers

Above and Beyond built a strong reputation by doing remixes for musical acts like Adamski and Dario G, A major breakthrough came for Above and Beyond when their mix of Madonna’s single “What It Feels Like For A Girl” was accepted. Madonna was so impressed with Above and Beyond’s rendition that she decided to shot the video to the Above & Beyond mix instead of the album version. This video was directed by Guy Ritchie.

Above & Beyond are DJ/producers and consist of Jono Grant, Tony McGuiness and Paavo Siljamäki. They make music together and individually under aliases including Oceanlab, Tranquillity Base, Nitromethane, POS, Aalto, Dirt Devils and Free State, the boys have also remixed tracks like Madonna and Armin van Buuren as well as artists such as Delerium, Three Drives and Japanese superstar, Ayumi Hamasaki.

Standout productions from the trio include the debut Above & Beyond single ‘Far From In Love’, Oceanlab classics ‘Clear Blue Water’ and ‘Sky Falls Down’, Nitromethane ‘Time To Die’ and, on Paul van Dyk’s ‘Vandit’ label, Aalto ‘Rush’.

“Far From In Love” represented the first solo offering under the Above & Beyond name. This track was heavily supported by Dave Pearce/Judge Jules on Radio 1 and Armin Van Buuren on ID&T, the track has attained anthem status among the group’s many fans and has been licensed to the likes of Media Records and ID+T internationally. Far From In Love incorporates the emotionally moving vocals which Above & Beyond’s is well known for and angelic strings and melodies.

Anjunabeats label has become a favourite by big names like Paul van Dyk, Judge Jules, Ferry Corsten, Matt Hardwick and DJ Tiesto. Armin van Buuren admits “…I can’t remember the last set that didn’t have an Above & Beyond production in it. They sound great on the radio and rock any dancefloor.”

As DJs, Above & Beyond hold residency at Passion nightclub and have spun the decks at the likes of Ministry of Sound and Room At The Top in the UK, and internationally in Canada, USA, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Australia, Singapore and Japan. Through a combination of silky production skills and uplifting DJ sets, Above & Beyond are fast becoming one of the strongest moving forces behind electronic music. In September 2003 issue of Mixmag singles out Above & Beyond as one of the most prominent trance acts in the world today.
